Chiropractic is a primary health-care profession that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of conditions that are due to problems with the joints, ligaments, tendons and nerves, particularly those of the spine.
The cause of many different back and neck complaints derive from a problem within the spine. When the normal movement of a spinal joint is restricted, it has a direct effect on the surrounding tissue, causing muscles and ligaments to tense up, often resulting in pain and inflammation.
Chiropractic treatment involves safe, gentle and specific manipulation and mobilisation techniques to free joints in the spine and restore 'normal' motion. Once mobility is restored, aches and pain are significantly reduced, muscles and ligaments relax and blood flow is increased to the affected area. Chiropractic manipulation can involve using the hands to apply gentle forces to the spinal bones quickly and this is normally associated with the release of gas bubbles that go 'pop' or 'crack'. Manipulation could be gentle forces applied slowly when there is no associated release of gas or noise or even done using an instrument that makes adjustments by applying gentle forces.
In addition to manipulation, our Chiropractors use a wide variety of techniques including therapeutic massage, muscles stretches, acupuncture, therapeutic ultrasound, postural advice and rehabilitation exercises.
Exeter Chiropractors combines the traditional techniques of chiropractic, massage and acupuncture with modern, advanced technology like deep tissue laser therapy (class IV laser) and spinal decompression therapy to tailor the best treatment programme for each individual.
In addition at Exeter Chiropractors all our patients are given support from our Sports Therapist, Sara at no extra cost with the aim of providing patients with the tools of exercise and lifestyle advice so that long term solutions can be achieved.
